After a couple of days with severe weather we are going to see a different type of danger from the weather this week – extreme heat. A ridge over central Mexico is going to expand northward and bring significantly hotter weather to Southeast Texas this week.
Monday and Tuesday give us a preview of the heat to come. The highs will only be in the upper 90s and a few clouds will help to keep the temperatures below the century mark. Wednesday, the high pressure expands more and skies clear and the heat starts to build. Most of Harris County will see 99-101 on Wednesday. Thursday through the weekend the temperatures continue to climb. We could see 103 at Hobby and 105 at Bush by the weekend. Lows are going to be upper 70s all week except close to the water, where temperatures will only drop to 80-81.
Remember to be heat aware. Not only will it be hot, but the amount of time over 100 degrees is going to be measured in hours during the day. Remember to look before you lock your car. Pets need extra water and protection from the heat. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Check on your neighbors.
In the Triangle, the high pressure will not have as much of an impact. Highs will reach mid 90s by the coast and by Sabine lake, and upper 90s by the time Friday and the weekend arrive. Lows will be upper 70s in most locations, but staying 80 and above can’t be ruled out by the water.
